Clever Fresher’s guide to college life: 8 Essential items you must take to school

It’s back to school season and some colleges/universities have already resumed, while others are yet to resume. First of all, congratulations to all the freshers. It definitely wasn’t easy but you have moved to another stage in life. And trust me, this stage won’t be as easy as the last.      

For those freshers who haven’t resumed yet, I’m sure you’re wondering what you need to take to school. And that’s where I come in. So basically, this is “An investigation into what I need to take to School”.

There are a lot of things you might want to take to university but remember, you’re not moving to the moon! At least the moon has plenty space but your room in school might not. There are places you can busy most things in school and buying things in school means there will be more space for you to pack the important things you need. Most especially if you are taking a flight to school. You don’t want to have extra luggage, do you? Extra luggage simply refers to when your boxes are weighed and it exceeds the maximum kg allowed for a person on a flight.

What should a fresher take to college?

What you can take actually depends on what your school permits. Some things are allowed in some schools, but are banned in other schools. So the first thing you should do is to check your school’s handbook for what they don’t allow students to bring. Meanwhile, I’ll just give you my opinion on the important things you’ll need.

• Important Documents

You never know, something could come up that could require your documents. The documents you should be sure to carry are;

• Passport
• All official university documents, including your admission letter
• JAMB admission letter
• Certificate of origin
• Certificate of birth
• WAEC result
• NECO result

Note: It is preferable that you keep all your documents together. If they are always together, you know where to look to find any document you need.

• Electricals

If your school does not allow devices, it’s fine. But if it does, be sure to pack the following:

• Laptop or desktop
• Laptop charger
• Mobile phone or charger
• Extension cable
• Head phones
• Speakers

Note: Be careful of what you take. Know that if you don’t keep your device in a safe place, it can be stolen. And you wouldn’t want that.

• Stationary

As a student, this is very important. How would you take down notes without a pen? You don’t need to take too much stationaries. Just take what you need.

• Pens
• Pencils
• Highlighters
• Notebooks
• Sticky note
• Ruler
• Sticky tape

• Bedroom

• Pillow and pillow case
• Duvet
• Blanket
• Clothes hanger
• Laundry bin

• Toiletries

You definitely do not want to forget your toiletries. If you are travelling to school, you can just buy one or two at home, then buy the rest in school. That way you’ll have space for other things! But make sure you buy them when you get to school. Remember that cleanliness is next to godliness 🙂

Freshers! ensure you go to the health care center in your school if you feel sick. Also eat healthy. Remember, Health is Wealth.

• Shoes (trainers, casual shoes, corporate shoes)

• Books for personal reading
• Board/ card games (monopoly, chess, scrabble, whot etc)
