Journey Of A Thousand Miles: My Re-validation Experience pt1
So I’ve been contemplating if I should write and publish this post or not but today I decided to go for it. This post is basically about my re-validation experience when I tried re-validating one of my courses.
Prior to this, I’ve heard a lot of stories about course re-validation. Some people said there’s no use applying for a course re-validation cause it doesn’t work. Some also said that if you passed a course but you aren’t satisfied with your grade and you re-validate the course, the lecturer will vex and give you an F in the course.

When I say “you aren’t satisfied with your grade”, I don’t mean a situation where you aren’t sure if you did better or not and you want to re-validate the course. I mean a situation where you are 100% sure that the grade you were given isn’t what you deserved. To be honest, I’m actually glad that Covenant University provides students with an opportunity to re-validate their results, unlike some other schools that run on vibes and you just have to take what you see.
How Can I Re-validate a course?

It’s pretty easy to do this. You can either fill the re-validation form through your portal and submit it OR you can fill the hard copy then get your level adviser to sign on it and also get one of the course lecturers to sign it and you submit it to your department.
How did my re-validation go?
Do you know that feeling when you put in your best in something but end up arriving at a dead end? That is exactly how my re-validation process went. So there was this course that I took in my Omega semester and I really expected an amazing grade in the course but when the results came out, I was shocked. I was like “How did this happen” and I decided I was going to re-validate the course because I was more than a hundred percent sure that my efforts would have given me a better grade than what I saw on my result. Not to mention, it was a three-unit course.

For those who are wondering, No I did not fail the course I just wasn’t satisfied with the grade that I was given. Plus in one of the tests, I had a really high score but the lecturer uploaded 0 on my portal. I told her about it and she said she would change it but she never did. I kept coming back to meet her concerning the score issue and one day she just told me that there’s no way she can change my score because for her to change it, she’ll have to send a mail to DAPU and she will be questioned about how she made the mistake, she said she’ll just add it to my exam score. Guess what? She never added it 🙂
The whole issue started when I went to the Course coordinator of the course to submit my re-validation form and she refused to collect it. Yes the course coordinator was also the lecturer that uploaded the wrong score for me on my portal. This woman embarrassed me in front of one of her project students. Like I said, re-validating, because you are sure you did better, is different from re-validating because you’re not sure if you did better or not but you just want to confirm if you actually had a grade or if you had a better grade.
I was completely sure of what I did but this woman embarrassed me in front of this final year project student she was supervising and she was literally talking to me as if I came to beg her to give me a better grade. Once again, the course in question is a 3 unit course. Since the lecturer refused to collect the re-validation form, I had to process it through another means. Through the help of someone, I was able to process it through the lecturer’s department.
They said that they checked my scores for confirmation, that I actually had an A in the course that they have processed the re-validation. This was early in October 2021. I was so glad. A week passed and I didn’t notice any change on my portal so I went back o the department to find out what was up. I was told to calm down that the re-validation takes time so I calmed down. I literally checked my portal every day but no update.
After a month, I went back to find out what was going on and I was told to go to CSIS. I went to the CSIS at my college (CMSS) and they directed me to the CSIS at Zenith Bank. This one was another problem. The first day I went there, I was told to come back the next day because I was sent to meet the Head of CSIS but he wasn’t around. I came back the next day and he was around but I was told to come back an hour later. I didn’t have the energy to go walk back to my college so I just stayed at LT. An hour later, I went back.
I met the head of CSIS and narrated my “Story” to him and he said I shouldn’t worry that it’ll show on my portal. He didn’t ask for my matriculation number or anything. He just said it’ll show within the week. A week passed and nothing happened. I went back and he told me to keep checking that it’ll show. I even went back to the Lecturer’s department to meet the man that claimed he processed the re-validation but he kept saying that it has been processed to CSIS and it felt like every day I came to meet him, he spoke to me more rudely than the last.

Just like that, checking my portal became a daily routine. Eventually, we vacated school, and still no update on my portal. I decided to inform the former DSA( Conrad) about it. I sent a mail concerning my case and attached my evidence. He forwarded the mail to the head of my department and she said she’ll work on it. Finally, we resumed this year and I hadn’t heard anything from the former DSA or my HOD.
Watch out for Part2 to know what happened next 😉
