Journey Of A Thousand Miles: My Re-validation Experience pt3
Welcome to the Part3 of My re-validation experience. To refresh your memory, In part2 I stopped at the part where I left the CEDS building I was in and went to my level advisor’s office which was on the 400 floor of the CMSS building. Let’s not forget that the person who sent me on the journey (My HOD) could have easily picked up her phone to enquire what she wants but No, she decided to add to my frustration.
She said the whole issue with my re-validation is that the form was signed by the HOD of the department of economics, not her (I had to process my phone through my lecturer’s department because she refused to collect it, she’s in the department of economics). My HOD said I should go and ask my level advisor what to do then come back to her and tell her what he said.
I was already so tired but I had to keep going. I struggled to climb up to 400 floor and I went to his office with my fingers crossed hoping he would be there but when I got to his office, the door was locked. I literally wanted to scream but I composed myself and went to sit in an empty class. I wanted to cry because I felt frustrated and tired but being big girls don’t cry. I sat under the fan for 15 minutes and every 5 minutes I stood up and walked back to check if he was there in the office, then came back and sat in the class.

I decided to walk around the college because he had to be there somewhere. I mean, I saw him earlier in the day. I started my search on 400 floor, then went to 300 floor, then 200 floor then just went and sat in the reception on 100 floor. I literally walked around the college, I was tired and sweating but I decided to look at everything as an “exercise”. I went back to the 400 floor again hoping that my level advisor would magically appear in his office but he didn’t. I wanted to give up and leave, but I decided to give it one last shot.
I walked around the 300 floor searching and One of my lecturers saw me and he asked what was wrong. I immediately started ranting my frustration and he offered her to call my level adviser for me on his phone. But the problem was he didn’t have the level advisor’s number. Despite that, this lecturer actually took me with him and went around asking other lecturers if they had the number and by God’s grace we found it. At that point, I realized that not all lecturers are bad. I mean some are bad, but not all and this particular lecturer definitely won my award for “Best Lecturer In Covenant University”.

I spoke to the level advisor on his phone and the level advisor told me to go back to the economics department and meet the HOD and explain everything to him. I thanked the best CU lecturer and hurried away to the Economics department. At the department, I met the person that processed my re-validation. He’s the AO of the department. I knocked on the door, then entered and he asked what I wanted. I told him I wanted to see the HOD and he asked why.
I explained why and as he said ” So you’re that girl? I told you it has been processed” and I replied, “My level advisor sent me to see the HOD”. The HOD’s office was wide open and he was even inside but the AO said I can’t see him, that he’s busy, that I should go to CSIS. I don’t even know why he likes speaking to me rudely. I was pissed. I really wanted to just ignore him and walk straight into the HOD’s office, but I wasn’t ready for any lecturer to add Jara and report me before they give me an offense form for maybe gross insubordination or something.

Want to know what happened after that? Find out in Part4 😉
