Ultimate Guide: What to expect as a CU student pt.1
Welcome to my blog!
My name is Grace Smart. I’m a student of Covenant University (CU), studying Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management. If you’re reading this post, you’re probably a fresher that’s wondering what to expect in Covenant University (when you resume), or maybe you’re just curious. This post is a guide to help you fit into CU life.
DRESSING
In CU, we are all Kings and Queens. We are expected to dress corporately for class, chapel service and other events like departure service, welcome assembly etc. At the residence area, you can wear casual whenever you want, but wearing casual at the college area on week days is only allowed from 5pm. However, you can wear casual at any time to your college during the weekend. Anyways, Freshers usually bring anything corporate to wear but be careful what you wear, so you won’t cast. Male freshers don’t really have any issue, cause guys always wear shirts with knotted tie, tucked into their trouser. Female freshers on the other hand usually have complications.
For the Queens, When buying your corporate shirts/tops, buy shirts that have collars. We aren’t allowed to wear collarless shirts for class, but you can get some collarless shirts that you can wear on Sundays. Simple gowns are also allowed to be worn on Sunday.
Body hogging clothes and Jumping trousers aren’t allowed. It’s best not to bring it before it will be ceased by your Hall Officer. If you manage to escape your hall without being caught, MSS will cease it (if they find you sha).
If you’re wondering what MSS is, you can find out what it is here
CU has strict dress codes, but that won’t stop you from being fashionable 🙂
Kings, take note that you are expected to wear shirts with knotted ties, tucked into your trousers (Even on Sunday). Also, learn to match your clothes properly. Please don’t wear a pattern shirt on a pattern trouser. You are allowed to bring other clothes (e.g the picture below), but they are not permitted to be worn for classes nor for Sunday service and mid-week service. You can wear them on Saturday, or for other evening programs like Communion service, WHITE etc
Wearing your student ID card is compulsory for all students.
One more thing, short tops/shirts aren’t allowed for ladies. Your shirt has to be long enough to reach your hip-line. LECTURES
You know how you have to write down every single detail in your note in class in secondary school, so you could read your note later on? Some people are slow in writing so they can’t always keep up with how fast the teacher dictates notes (e.g Me). If you belong in that category, then I have good news for you.
The good news is that CU is technologically advanced. You have access to your notes on your moodle. The disappointing part is that some lecturers insist that you copy note in their class. Not to mention, you have to jot some extra points the lecturers give that are not in the note. So just ensure you come with enough notebooks

Lectures run from 8am-7pm. When you see your timetable, you’ll know the time your having a lecture and where it will take place. Just pray your timetable won’t be so compacted. Some courses have chain classes. When i say chain classes, I mean having a class by 8am-10am, having another class by 10am-12pm, having another by 12pm-2pm, having another by 3pm-5pm..basically have class straight up till 7pm. I know people that have chain classes. Fortunately, your timetable won’t be compacted every day. My timetable on the other hand is very flexible. I’m also a person that hates Mondays. But luckily for me, I only have two classes on Monday 🙂
When you have class, ensure that you attend it. You need a minimum of 75% attendance to write exams. I know people that couldn’t write exams because they couldn’t meet up with the required percentage, and that’s automatic carry over. Don’t joke with your classes. If you won’t be able to attend a class, notify the lecturer first.
BAGS
For the Queens, we don’t use the usual school bags we used in secondary school. Girls use small school bags, laptop bags, tote bags, purses and handbags (both big and small).
For the Kings, Males mostly use laptop bags, tote bags and strap bags. Though some use actual school bags.

HAIR
Queens are allowed to wear hair extensions but it must be black or your hair color. Before, we could make any length of hair, but some people abused that privilege by making unneccessarily long hair. Due to this, our hair length was restricted to waist length. Not long after that, hair length was then restricted to bra-length. Some people still chose to make long hair, but when they were caught by MSS, their hair was cut to the bra-length. It’s better to just follow the rules and do what is expected of you, so you don’t have to worry all the time about being caught.
For the kings, you are expected to cut your hair low. Also, you must be clean shaved. If your beards are growing out, shave, or else MSS will cease your ID card and you definitely don’t want that to happen.
Send this to a fresher preparing to come to CU, Let them know what’s up
Watch out for Part2!!

Nice one, liked the blog but you have a lot of blur pictures in your blog and also, you are picking on CU which is very not necessary.
I’m sorry about the pictures, When I uploaded them they looked okay.
I really don’t know why it’s appearing blurry. Probably the issue is from my host.
Also, I’m not picking on CU. I’m just letting people know the truth.
