Did You Choose The Course You’re Studying?
I ask again; did you choose the course you’re studying? In most cases, the course an individual studies greatly influences the career they undertake. I honestly feel that deciding on a course to study is an important decision that an individual must make; however, parents these days have taken up that responsibility.
It’s pretty unfortunate that some parents do that, and that’s why most people would study a university course and then take up a career that is not related to the course.
Did I Chose The Course I’m Currently Studying?
The answer is No. I didn’t choose the course I’m currently studying. I wanted to study political science. Unfortunately, my parents didn’t accept my choice, and I was told to pick another course.
After much consideration, I chose International Relations. I guess I was still excited to study the course cause I somewhat felt it was similar to Political science. Fortunately for me, my parents approved the course.
Eventually the day for me to fill my application form came and my mom wrote Industrial Relations and Human Resources Managemet. I was like “Mummy I said International Relations not Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management” and my mom replied “You better study that course! Don’t you know you can work anywhere” and so on and so forth.
I was very angry at first, but right now I’m really glad that I am Studying this course. I also look forward to working as a HR Manager.
In this article, we asked some students if they chose the course they’re studying or if it was forced on them by their parents.
No, I didn’t choose the course I’m studying. Well I actually wanted to study Music, but I and my parents prayed for God to tell us which course would be best for me and God said Mass Communication. So here I am studying Mass Communication, but don’t worry, I have other plans 😉

Well I kinda chose my course but it’s not really what I wanted to study. I’ve always been good with Chemistry and I was one of the best in the subject in my secondary school. But at the same time, I’ve always loved animation and making fictional characters. That’s what I would have actually liked to study, but when the time came for me to decide a course to study in the University, decided to go for a “Conventional” course.
My mom suggested pharmacy but at the time I wasn’t old enough to get into the university that had the course, so the next best thing which I chose based on my strength in chemistry was chemical engineering. I’m still pretty okay in the course, doing better than most of my mates, but my heart’s not really in it.
